Bretona Pond (waterfowl) located 1.5 km south of 23 Ave. on Hwy 14. See the Cooking Lake Auto Tour map for the location of Bretona Pond.

Beaverhill Lake located just east of Tofield, 70 km from Edmonton

Off Hwy 14 (large concentrations of waterfowl & shorebirds in spring

& fall) also Bird Observatory in Natural Area on southeast corner of lake

Hastings Lake (waterfowl) off Wye Rd. south on Rge. Rd. 204

Off Hwy 60 north of Devon on Woodbend Road

Wabamun-directions 

Wabamun Lake & Provincial Park ... song birds

Off Hwy 16, 70 km west of Edmonton. Winter birding for waterfowl in the

open water from the Wabamun Generating Plant. The Sundance and

Keephills plants south of Wabamun also create open water situations

that make winter birding of waterfowl excellent places to visit.

Cross Lake Provincial Park 135 km north of Edmonton (access on Sec. #801 from

Dapp Corner) (songbirds & waterfowl)

Joseph Lake located east of New Sarepta off Hwy 21

(shorebirds, waterfowl & bald eagles)

Misty Ridge 35 km north of Barrhead off #779 & #661

follow signs. Second access off Hwy 33 north from Camp Creek on Rge. Rd. 45,

follow signs. Located on Athabasca River (spring & fall eagle monitoring site)

Elk Island National Park - 45 km east of Edmonton on Highway 16. Diverse

habitat attracts a variety of birds. Waterfowl, song-birds

Edmonton River Valley Park System

 

The many trails and parks in the system can be excellent birding sites.

This map of the City shows the locations of many of the main sites of interest.
